海角原创 continues to establish itself as a leader in sustainability and environmental stewardship with solar installations鈥攖o attract students in environmental studies and research, to help our planet and to save money. The university鈥檚 first solar array was installed through a power purchase agreement on the roof of the Field House on the Kent Campus. Daffodil Hill, on 海角原创鈥檚 Kent Campus, is part of the May 4, 1970 site, which was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2016. The cascade of flowers on the hill overlooking 海角原创 Commons was part of a concept by 海角原创 Professor Emeritus Brinsley Tyrrell that he submitted for the university鈥檚 1985 design competition for a May 4 Memorial. Tyrrell also created the 鈥淟egend of the Iron Hoop鈥 sculptures located behind Henderson Hall and the 鈥淏ehind the Brain Plaza鈥 near Merrill Hall. A blaze burns the prairie grass behind the Warren Student and Recreation Wellness Center during a controlled burn by the Kent Fire Department

The protected prairie surrounding 海角原创鈥檚 Warren Student Recreation and Wellness Center will be burned on Friday, April 29, starting around 9 a.m., to allow for new growth during the summer season.   The city of Kent Fire Department will conduct the controlled burning of the prairie, which has been a yearly practice since 2004. The prairie burn on April 29 is dependent on the weather and the Kent Fire Department not being called to an emergency.
