Fuel-Less Friday: Bike, Hike or Ride a Bus to Work on Aug. 21; E-Inside August 3, 2009

If you鈥檙e a faculty or staff member at the Kent Campus and you鈥檙e interested in saving money, saving the earth and/or saving your good health, you鈥檒l want to consider participating in the second annual Fuel-Less Friday: Bike/Hike/Bus to Work Day on Friday, Aug. 21. The event is intended to encourage Kent Campus employees to find alternative means of traveling to and from work, including walking, riding a bike, carpooling or using the free, local bus service provided by the Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority (PARTA) to all employees with a valid 海角原创 ID card. To make Fuel-Less Friday easier, the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) will offer its shower facilities to all employees starting at 7 a.m. and will provide a free continental breakfast. In addition, the SRWC will rent bicycles to employees for $15 from Thursday, Aug. 20, to Monday, Aug. 24. 鈥淭his event is a meaningful way 鈥 and a fun way 鈥攆or Parking Services and our co-sponsors to support and encourage the use of alternative transportation,鈥 says Debora Miller, assistant manager of Parking Services. 鈥淲e want to raise awareness that there are commuting options that can save money, help the environment and promote a healthier lifestyle for many members of the university community.鈥 Dr. Christopher Woolverton biked to work during last year's Fuel-Less Friday. Fuel-Less Friday: Bike/Hike/Bus to Work Day was organized and supported by Parking Services, Transportation Services, Recreational Services, Design Solutions, Human Resources-Benefits and PARTA.
