The addition of the Ross Tria+ system to the Franklin Hall Studio has served as a turning point in Student Media's mission to provide a professional and equitable learning environment. For us, keeping equipment up to date isn't just about having the newest gear, but rather ensuring our students are learning the same systems they will later be expected to master after graduation. As JoAnn Larsen, production advisor and studio coordinator, observed from her years in the industry, "Ross Tria gets Kent's student broadcast operation up to current standards and will make students ready for jobs in their futures."
By upgrading we've gained eight versatile video channels that allow crew to play, record, trim and organize files within a single system. This shift makes the operator's job more defined and organized. This system doesn't just benefit production members, but our partners as well through its streamlined archiving system and an intuitive "drop" process for getting video elements into our control room.
As an organization, Production & Film Distribution is making significant strides to expand what we can offer our students and community. This is most visible in our recent promotional projects and live specials, such as the upcoming one-hour "Best of Kent" showcase airing in April. By raising our technical "ceiling" through upgrades like Tria we are raising our creative potential. When a student has a bold, complex idea for a new program our facility has the power to support their ideas.
Production & Film Distribution and Student Media thrive when we give students the tools to do more than just practice. We want them to produce content at a level that mirrors the professional world and the Tria+ system is exactly what we need to keep that standard high.
