Our Power, Our Planet

海角原创 East Liverpool Observing Earth Day 

The 2026 海角原创 East Liverpool Earth Day observance will be held April 25, from 9 a.m. to noon in Purinton Hall, located at 400 E. Fourth St. The free event is open to the public. 

This year鈥檚 theme is Our Power, Our Planet. Featured speakers are Zihan Lin Ph.D. from Cleveland State University and Kelli Pastore, parks director with the Salem Parks and Recreation Department.

Lin is an assistant professor in Cleveland State鈥檚 Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences. The topic of her presentation is 鈥淯rban Green Space Dynamics and Human Health: Understanding the associations in U.S. cities.鈥 

Lin鈥檚 research utilizes GIS, remote sensing and machine learning to investigate the intersections of urban green space, environmental health and climate resilience. Her recent work focuses on urban green space assessment, heat stress mitigation and the impact of environmental factors on public health and safety. She also led and collaborated on research projects funded by NASA and the National Science Foundation.

Lin earned her doctorate degree in geography from Michigan State University and completed post-doctoral training at Boston University.

Pastore began working with the Salem Parks and Recreation Department in 2022 as the recreation manager and was named park director in 2024. Her presentation topic is 鈥淧rotecting our Roots: Biodiversity and Conservation.鈥
