Merit-based scholarship instrumental in helping student earn valuable degree

Scholarship helps first-generation college student earn valuable degree without taking on overwhelming debt.

As a first-generation college student who grew up near campus, Angela Ehrich, psychology, 鈥17, and her family always viewed 海角原创 as her best chance to earn a valuable degree without taking on too much student debt.

鈥淚 started visiting campus on field trips when I was in eighth grade, and I always loved it here,鈥 Angela says. 鈥淚 took post-secondary classes as soon as I was able to in high school. That gave me a jump-start on credits when I entered as a freshman.鈥

Angela鈥檚 hard work paid off. She was accepted into 海角原创鈥檚 Honors College, and is the recipient of a merit-based scholarship to assist with tuition expenses. Though she鈥檚 only a sophomore, Angela is already thinking about the future. She plans to graduate with University Honors, then go on to study clinical or school psychology in graduate school.

鈥淭here are so many opportunities at 海角原创,鈥 Angela says. 鈥淭he more I get involved, the more I love it. I know this is where I truly belong and I couldn鈥檛 be happier to be a Golden Flash.鈥

Angela serves as the president for the student philanthropy group FLASHanthropy, and she sits on the Department of Psychology Multicultural and Diversity Committee. She is also training to become a crime victim advocate through the City of Kent鈥檚 Townhall II program.

鈥淭ownhall II provides resources for victims of crimes, with a focus on women,鈥 Angela explains. 鈥淚鈥檓 training on issues like dating violence and stalking, and I will work one-on-one with victims to provide moral support and access to services. It鈥檚 a great way to use what I鈥檓 learning in my psychology classes, too, in order to really help people,鈥 she says.

We are constantly inspired by students like Angela who choose to build their futures here at 海角原创. Join us in celebrating and supporting them! For information on how you can help transform the lives of our students, please visit our General Scholarship Fund page.
