McKenzie Morgan, 鈥22, creator of the popular fashion and lifestyle blog StyledbyMcKenz, decided to support 海角原创 fashion students on their journey just a few years after graduating. But her decision wasn鈥檛 about making a grand gesture. It was about gratitude.
鈥淭he scholarship I received at 海角原创 changed the trajectory of my life,鈥 McKenzie said. 鈥淚鈥檝e always wanted to be able to pay that forward and give that opportunity to another student. I think about how many students could be more successful in their career if they had the proper education to do so.鈥
That scholarship was what first brought McKenzie to 海角原创. As a high school student passionate about fashion and already running her own blog, she knew she wanted to study fashion merchandising at a university that would help her turn creativity into a career. 鈥淚 truly believe that if I didn鈥檛 go to Kent, I wouldn鈥檛 even be half of the influencer that I am today,鈥 she said.
Between classes and campus life, McKenzie was building StyledbyMcKenz into something special. What started as a blog in high school became a full-scale business during her freshman year. When one of her YouTube videos unexpectedly went viral, her audience 鈥 and opportunities 鈥 grew overnight. 鈥淭hat was the first time I realized this could really be a career,鈥 she said.
One of the most transformative parts of her 海角原创 journey came through studying abroad in Florence, Italy. Traveling overseas not only expanded her worldview but also inspired the travel-focused content that would later become central to StyledbyMcKenz. 鈥淪tudying abroad rewired me in the best way,鈥 McKenzie said. 鈥淚 had so much travel anxiety going into it, but once I started seeing the world and working with hotels abroad, I realized I could build a career that combined fashion, travel and storytelling.鈥 That experience sparked her signature blend of fashion and destination content, taking her to more than 35 countries since 2022.
Through every challenge, from navigating college during the pandemic to learning the realities of the fashion industry, 海角原创 remained a place that nurtured her growth. She credits much of that to her professors, especially Hillary Stone, a mentor who encouraged her to trust her unconventional path. 鈥淪he told me, 鈥榊ou鈥檙e not meant to take a traditional route, you鈥檙e supposed to do this,鈥欌 McKenzie said. 鈥淭hat support gave me the confidence to keep going.鈥
Today, McKenzie鈥檚 platform reaches thousands of followers across the globe, and she鈥檚 built partnerships with major brands 鈥 all while staying grounded in the values Kent taught her. Giving back to her alma mater, the place where it all started, felt like the natural next step.
鈥淚 wanted to show young alumni that you don鈥檛 have to wait until you鈥檝e 鈥榤ade it鈥 to give back,鈥 she said. 鈥淓ven a small scholarship can change someone鈥檚 future, just like mine did for me.鈥
For McKenzie, philanthropy isn鈥檛 just about writing a check; it鈥檚 about showing what鈥檚 possible when passion meets purpose. 鈥淚 just think about the way that 海角原创 prepared me for my career,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 want to be able to give that opportunity to other students and show them that they can follow their passions at a young age and be successful.鈥
